It’s raining? Pull this out of the closet
I scribbled the outline of a TinkerToy on a pad in my office. My kids are learning about molecules and construction principles, and what better way to teach them but with TinkerToys?
“That’s a TinkerToy,” came the chorus in my office. Then I heard each person tell me a story of what amazing thing they built with wheels, sticks and fans, 20, 30 years ago. One had built a car. One built a system of pulleys. I had created a windmill. But I couldn’t remember what it was called.
Now that I have the name “TinkerToy” back in my head, I don’t think it will ever leave.
I think moms since 1914 have been buying TinkerToys for their curious kids. I checked the Vermont Country Store, out on Route 100 in the middle of the state, my purveyors of “when we were little we used to have” items, and yep, they’re in stock. They’re $49.95 for the old-fashioned can.
I can’t wait for a rainy day to whip this out. I’ll show my kids how to make a windmill that responds to kid-produced wind.
